Its day 20 and we only have 8 days left.  Oh no, what will you ever do without me? Don’t know, but I will try to make the last 8 days the best. So for tonight’s

Underrated Black Heroes and Villains, I’m going to talk about DC Comics Bumblebee. Why you ask? Well I wrote her ex-husband, it would be unfair of me not to talk about her. Plus I’m sure the Young Justice fans would like to learn more about her since she was also on the show.

Bumblebee whose real name is Karen Beecher-Duncan first buzzed in to comics in Teen Titans Issue 45 way back in 1976.

Karen was a scientist living a very normal, boring life until she met Teen Titan member Mal Duncan. Soon after the two would begin dating, Karen began to feel that the

itans did not appreciate Mal. In order to make Mal look good in front of the team, Karen built a bumblebee-themed super-suit, calling herself

The suit granted her enhanced strength, and the ability to fly.  She could manipulate her size and create powerful sonic blasts.  She would use this technology to sneak into the Titans base and attack the Teen Titans. She believed that this would give Mal a chance to save the day and look good in front of the team. During the battle she would see how much the team cared for him, when they came to his defense.  Karen was able to escape without her identity being discovered, this would lead the Titans to believe that she was a super villain.

Proven wrong, Karen reveals her identity to the Titan’s and Mal. After a deep apology, the Titans offer her a place on the team as they were very impressed by her abilities and intellect.

Sometime later Karen and Mal would move to

San Francisco

to join the Teen Titians West, where they would remain members until the team disbanded.  After Karen and Mal retires from superhero life they would wed, she would bet a job S.T.A.R. Labs (Scientific and Technological Advanced Research).  While working at S.T.A.R. Labs she designed non-lethal weapons.

Bumblebee would return to active duty on many occasions. During the Infinite Crisis event, she is recruited by Donna Troy to travel into deep space to battle the incoming crisis that threatened the existence of the universe. After winning the day, Bumblebee along with her fellow teammates were trapped by a Zeta Beam Ray that Adam Strange was hoping to use to teleport the heroes back to earth. But because of interference from a space rift, the Zeta Beam would a

Karen along with Mal, her now ex-husband, would join the superhero team Doom Patrol.

creates a medication that will stop Karen’s heart going into cardiac arrest. She is able to grow the height of 7 inches. It was never shown if she was to ever cured. She has yet to make an appearance in the New 52.
